Microsoft Silverlight WTF?

I just updated my WMV preference pane and along with the updated WMV there was this Microsoft Silverlight stuff on my HD ... wtf?

I reverted to an earlier version cos I don't trust stuff like that and it was kinda hard for me to get my head around whether it was good or bad ... I'm just plain leery with that ...

I *think* you could leave it out of the installation by clicking on "Customise" but I just uninstalled the lot for now ...

Some internet radio stations require silverlight, in order to listen to their program. Whenever I used it, I get an error message, but it plays anyway.

Yeah, I googled it and saw that it was something to do with streaming music but I just use iTunes to do that and honestly I don't listen to that many internet radio stations ...

I downloaded the Flip4Mac WM Components from Apples website and I only really noticed the Silverlight stuff when I noticed an alias to it at the top of my applications list.

It seems that Silverlight isn't a new app on the block, it's just that I'm sure when I first installed Flip4Mac that there was no extra luggage that came with it.

I used the WMV preference pane thing for a while, but then it just annoyed me too much... VLC is my video player of choice (I'm sure you have this already)... it supports most downloaded and some streaming video formats, but there's always that website that refuses to use anything but some ridiculous windows format
