Winter Olympics: Vancouver 2010

Anyone following this?

It's been surprisingly really good! Between China, Canada and the Scandinavians I'm amazed that USA and Germany are the top right now...

BTW GO US HOCKEY!

I have only caught a few minutes of the high ski jump event (not sure of the name) and doubles figure skating. This has all been in my gym so no sound was on.

yeah the Nordic Combined was awesome, It's weird that many of the skiiers are in their early 20's but I imagine these sports take quite the toll on the joints

I've been watching bits and pieces, here and there and it's just amazing what these athletes are achieving compared to the regular Games.

The hockey is amazing to watch ... my son played field hockey here and it's a totally different game to ice hockey. I don't like it when they deliberately man-handle each other, like in field hockey the rules are 100% stricter and during a game the ref blows his whistle like every minute it seems, that's how easy it is to foul another player.

Having said that I think I'd rather be hit with the ice-puck over the round hockey ball, I think ...

yeah Ice Hockey is quite outrageous in terms of rules against deliberate physical contact, some find that as an appeal to the sport, I find it to be unsportsman-like.

I'm familiar with field hockey, there was a team at a college I went to, but I never followed it too closely. From what I've seen though getting hit with an ice puck is nothing compared to the pain potentially inflicted by an field ball especially considering the amount of pads worn by ice players.

but in the context of the sport which deliberate physical contact is encouraged... i don't think i would use unsportsman-like. though its unnecessary, it is expected.
